To prepare for the initial consultation, please note the following
Bathing
It is helpful to refrain from giving medicated baths 3 to 7 days before the appointment.Diet
Write down the brand name of food that is being fed as well as its first 5 ingredients - or - just cut out the ingredient label on the side of most bags of food. Also write down the names of any cookies, biscuits, treats or human food that is being fed regularly.Shampoos & Medications
Please bring along any shampoos or medications that you've used recently.Intradermal Allergy Skin Testing
If you have requested this test to be performed, please do not feed your pet 12 hours prior to the appointment. The allergy test involves giving the patient a mild sedative, shaving off a 7 inch square from the left chest wall and injecting ~80 allergenic extracts intradermally. The test takes 25 to 45 minutes to complete including interpretation. Please understand that this test cannot be performed if the patient has received: long acting cortisone, Depo-Medrol or desensitization/allergy shots within 7 weeks; prednisone, deltasone or cortisone tablets within 3 weeks; antihistamines within 2 weeks; eye, ear or skin drops/cream/ointment containing steroids or antihistamines within 2 weeks. Note: dog is on Atopica/Cyclosporine no withdrawl needed. If you are unsure, please ask the dermatologist's assistant.
About Our Fees
The fees charged reflect the quality and value of our advanced and specialized medical and diagnostic services. They reflect the degree of expertise required to diagnose and treat your pet successfully. If you would like to receive estimates for tests & professional procedures, please let our assistants know upon your arrival. Fees are payable when services are provided, in the form of cash, debit/Interac , MediCard or with a major credit card (Visa or Mastercard). Medicard is an excellent financial option for clients who find the consults, tests, and treatment fees difficult to manage as a single payment. Medicard offers individualized payment plans that can cover all, or partial costs of veterinary procedures. If you wish to take advantage of this option please contact MediCard directly prior to making an appointment for a consultation.
Other consultation information
- The first consultation generally lasts about 1 hour. There is no additional charge for consultations which exceed the hour. If intradermal skin testing is performed, the appointment will last anywhere between 1 1/2 to 2 hours.
- We have a strict cancellation policy, which requires 24 hours notification, otherwise the client will be billed and/or be put on a prepayment probation in order to book the replacing appointment. We will do our best to confirm the appointment with the client, however it would help everyone concerned if you could point this out to your client.
- Price breakdowns are as follows: ( medications, tests, treatments, professional services and GST are additional).
- At our Lower Mainland locations, the initial consultation is $159.50 Follow up exams are $82.50 any appointments over 3 months from previous appointment is considered a new consult $159.50.
- Intra Dermal Skin Testing is $319.50 (~80 different allergens; mild sedative given; 25 minute in house test with results in 5 to 10 minutes) Allergy Desensitization Serum is $189.50-$209.50 (10 - 12 ml serum vial, 1st one lasts 6 to 9 months, then the next vial lasts approximately 1 year).
- Payment policies: Visa, Mastercard, Interac, Cash, MediCard accepted (must be approved before appointment), NO CHEQUES!! Payment is due at time of service.
Changing Appointments
In consideration of all of our other patients, a minimum of 24 hours notice for appointment changes is required, or you will be billed. Please call during scheduled office hours to change an appointment.
